

A police officer was killed while two civilians were injured in a shooting incident along Taft Avenue corner Primero de Mayo Street, Barangay 90, Pasay City, on Saturday night, August 23.
The fatality was identified as Police Staff Sergeant (PSSg) Jomar Caliguiran, 39, assigned at the District Tactical Operations Center (DTOC) of the Manila Police District.
Based on the initial investigation of the Pasay City Police Station, Caliguiran was seated on his motorcycle in front of an establishment when one of two unidentified suspects wearing a black helmet and jacket approached him and opened fire at around 8:00 p.m.
Caliguiran managed to draw his issued firearm and return fire, but the gunman fled with his cohort on a silver NMAX motorcycle.
Two bystanders were hit by stray bullets during the incident. They were identified as Aljon Valdenibro, 31, a resident of Pasay City, and Melchor Bermundo, 64, also from Pasay. Both were rushed to the Manila Adventist Medical Center for treatment.

Caliguiran was initially brought to Pasay City General Hospital, where he was declared dead at 8:35 p.m. by the attending physician.
Police have launched a dragnet and hot pursuit operation to track down the suspects.
Investigation into the motive behind the shooting is ongoing.
