The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it is not ruling out the filing of charges against those behind the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally along EDSA, even as organizers secured a permit for the second day of the gathering.

Acting PNP spokesperson Police Col. Allen Rae Co said authorities will conduct a post-event investigation to determine whether any violations were committed.

“All of these will be covered by the investigation to be done after. If evidence warrants or if it is warranted, it might be seen na baka magkaroon ng pagfa-file ng kaso,” Co said.

The rally drew large crowds and caused major traffic disruptions on Tuesday, affecting commuters and workers in Metro Manila.

Co said the PNP chief has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the demonstration, acknowledging that many were unable to report to work or arrived late due to road congestion.

“Maraming naapektuhan. Merong mga hindi nakapasok sa trabaho, merong na-late. Some of their pay was docked,” Co said.

He added that authorities are working to prevent a repeat of the disruptions on the second day of the rally.

“Humihingi tayo na ngayong araw na ito ay hindi na ulit mangyari yung ganitong klase ng aberya,” Co said.

Police continue to monitor the situation as thousands more participants are expected to join the demonstration.
