The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday clarified that no nationwide gun ban will be implemented in connection with the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 27, 2026.

In a social media post, the PNP said reports circulating online claiming that a nationwide gun ban would be enforced during the SONA are false.

“Information circulating online claiming that a nationwide gun ban will be enforced during the SONA is incorrect,” the PNP said.

“The PNP has not issued any directive imposing a nationwide gun ban for the event,” it added.

However, the police organization emphasized that "existing laws, local ordinances, and security protocols will remain in effect."

As part of security preparations for the SONA, police personnel will strictly enforce restrictions on the carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons in designated security areas and other locations where such measures are authorized.

The PNP urged the public to "rely only on information released through its official communication channels" and avoid sharing unverified posts that may cause confusion.

The police force said it remains committed to ensuring the safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct of the President’s annual address while respecting the rights of the public.
