The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that Acting PNP Chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. will be promoted and formally receive the full-pledged four-rank police general on Wednesday, January 28.
According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa on DZRH'S Dos Por Dos, PNP Public Information Office Chief Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said Nartatez is scheduled to undergo his donning of rank ceremony on today.
The ceremony is tentatively set for 11:00 a.m. at the President’s Hall in Malacañang Palace, according to Tuaño.
Based on a memorandum issued by Camp Crame, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. himself is expected to confer the four-star rank on Nartatez.
Following the ceremony, Nartatez will be accorded arrival honors upon his return to the PNP National Headquarters, symbolizing his official assumption of duties as a four-star general and the country’s top police official.
“Arrival honors will be accorded to him in front of the National Headquarters,” the memorandum stated.
This followed last week’s order by the PNP confirming the retirement of its former chief and now Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III, effectively clearing the way for Nartatez’s promotion.
However, Torre denied reports that he filed an optional retirement from PNP.
