The Philippine National Police (PNP) is monitoring a planned motorcade along EDSA this Saturday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m., which is reportedly calling for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to resign, according to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa.

However, the PNP has assured the public that police personnel will be deployed to ensure the event proceeds in an orderly manner.

According to PNP spokesperson Randulf Tuano, Camp Crame is aware of the planned activity based on social media posts by former lawmaker Mike Defensor, who is among the event organizers.

Tuano emphasized that while the motorcade’s stated purpose is to call for "BBM resign," the PNP noted that the agency respects the public’s right to express their opinions.

The spokesperson also reminded organizers to coordinate with the local government agencies to ensure traffic flow is managed safely.

According to a poster shared by Defensor on his social media, the motorcade will have two convergence points, one along White Plains Avenue in Quezon City; and the other one at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Defensor was among the group of individuals who sought to file a third impeachment complaint against Marcos.

It can be rembered that previous rallies calling for Marcos’ resignation have led to legal consequences. In the last rally event, retired military officer Romeo Poquiz was arrested and charged with inciting sedition and rebellion by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

The charges, filed in Quezon City RTC Branch 77, stemmed from social media posts authorities claimed suggested destabilization efforts.
