The Philippine National Police (PNP) has directed local police units to assist in inspecting and securing gasoline stations amid rising fuel prices.
PNP Chief PGen Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued the order as authorities step up monitoring to prevent potential profiteering and hoarding.
According to PNP spokesperson PBGen Randulf Tuaño, part of their responsibility is to gather evidence from reports of hoarding and profiteering, which they will then forward to the Department of Energy (DOE).
Earlier today, several gas stations across Metro Manila reportedly raised fuel prices ahead of the scheduled adjustment date set by the DOE. This move contravened repeated advisories that price changes should only occur on Tuesdays.
The DOE has already issued show cause orders to multiple Metro Manila stations for failing to comply with fuel pricing rules outlined in its March 6 advisory.
In Central Luzon, many gas stations continue to have high fuel prices while others report to have diesel shortages.
Authorities warned that any manipulation of fuel supply or pricing could prompt stricter enforcement actions.
