The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has deployed a total of 7,179 police officers across Metro Manila to ensure tighter security during the celebration of Chinese New Year on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
According to Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the Philippine National Police is implementing a “maximum presence posture,” particularly in Binondo and other densely populated areas, to guarantee a peaceful and orderly observance of the festivities.
Police units have been mobilized for crowd management operations and anti-criminality patrols to maintain public safety amid the expected influx of devotees and visitors. Authorities anticipate large gatherings, especially in Chinatown districts and major commercial hubs.
Assistance desks have also been set up in strategic locations near key temples, commercial centers, and activity areas to provide immediate response to emergencies and address public concerns on-site.
The Manila Police District is closely coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to manage traffic flow and implement road closures. Routes near Binondo, Intramuros Bridge, and Jones Bridge will be affected during the celebrations.
Beyond Metro Manila, Nartatez has also directed regional police offices to increase visibility in other Chinatown districts in urban centers nationwide.
Police intelligence units have also been ordered to monitor potential threats and organized criminal groups that may attempt to exploit the large-scale gatherings.
