The Philippine National Police (PNP), together with other government agencies, officially launched four new Unified 911 Satellite Command Centers in key areas across the country to strengthen emergency response operations.
The newly established command centers are located in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Cauayan, Isabela; Tacloban City, Leyte; and Leganes, Iloilo.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. led the inauguration ceremony at the Leganes Fire Station, where local officials from Western Visayas witnessed a real-time demonstration of the integrated emergency response system.
According to Police Regional Office 6 Acting Director PBGen Randulf Tuaño, the simulation exercise showcased how the four command centers can respond more quickly to emergencies within their communities while remaining connected to a national platform based in Metro Manila.
Tuaño welcomed the initiative, saying it would help bring government services closer to the public, particularly in law enforcement and disaster response operations in Western Visayas.
The launch comes as government agencies prepare for possible calamities during the rainy season.
Earlier, the PNP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported that the country’s 911 hotline system has now achieved more than a 90 percent efficiency rate, a significant improvement from over 70 percent recorded last year.
