The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified one of the two suspects in the killing of businessman and billiards patron Ceferino “Perry” Mariano, who was shot dead in Quezon City on April 28, officials said Tuesday.

PNP spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño said the identification was based on fingerprint evidence recovered from a motorcycle used by the riding-in-tandem suspects who carried out the attack, according to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa.

Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the identity of the second suspect and to establish the full circumstances behind the killing.

PNP chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. expressed confidence that investigators will eventually uncover the mastermind behind the crime, which police believe may have stemmed from business rivalry.

Mariano, 75, was a prominent figure in Philippine billiards and was known for supporting several top Filipino cue sports players. He also owned businesses, including a sports bar and a small town lottery outlet.

He was killed in broad daylight along Timog Avenue in Quezon City after being ambushed by two armed men on a motorcycle. His driver, 51-year-old Norberto Orimaco, was also shot during the attack.

Police have not yet released further details on the identified suspect as the investigation continues.
