The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to assist in the government’s repatriation efforts for Filipinos affected by escalating tensions in the Middle East.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to organize the team to support agencies leading the repatriation operations, including the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The directive follows the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize the safety and welfare of overseas Filipinos.

The SIT will conduct interviews and screenings of returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to identify potential victims of illegal recruitment or human trafficking and to gather evidence against individuals who may have exploited Filipino workers abroad.

The PNP is also coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to monitor developments in the region and ensure readiness to support ongoing government operations aimed at ensuring the safe return of affected Filipinos.
