The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified that there is no threat to Malacañang, contrary to circulating social media posts claiming heightened alert due to a supposed “kudeta me.”
Authorities confirmed that the only security concern involves planned protests at Mendiola related to the ongoing transport strike.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson Randulf Tuano emphasized that the Palace is being monitored simply in preparation for scheduled rallies, not because of any coup-related threat.
Transport group PISTON previously announced plans to march to Mendiola on Friday to air their grievances regarding rising petroleum prices.
Prior to the strike, some public figures speculated that the Palace’s increased security was linked to unrest, alleging it could be blamed on administration opponents.
Tuano assured that coordination between the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) remains active in the unlikely event of a coup attempt.
Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro also dismissed rumors of a coup, challenging those spreading the allegations to submit affidavits for proper investigation, underscoring the government’s stance against baseless claims.
