The Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has issued 40 subpoenas in connection with the seizure of 521 kilograms of suspected shabu in Laos, with investigators expressing confidence that they are close to completing the case buildup.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Alexander Morico II on Wednesday said the subpoenas include those issued to 11 persons of interest earlier identified by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

Authorities are still looking for four of the 11 persons of interest after discovering that the addresses listed in their documents were fictitious.

Among those being sought is former Bangsamoro parliament member Sultan Edrieza Hadji Nasser Rimbang, who is suspected of financing the group involved in the shipment.

The 521-kilogram shabu shipment was intercepted in Laos after arriving from Malaysia aboard a private jet reportedly bound for the Philippines.

Morico said investigators are confident they are close to piecing together the full account of the alleged drug trafficking operation.

The CIDG is expected to turn over its case buildup to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday as part of the two agencies’ joint investigation.
