Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered an investigation into the death of a senior official of the Davao Region Police.
The victim, identified as PLtCol. Deosar Almasa, Assistant Regional Director for Logistics, was found bloodied with a short firearm in his own quarters in Davao City Monday morning, only hours before Nartatez’s command visit, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
Almasa did not respond to his colleague’s knocks at past 6 a.m., prompting them to forcibly enter his unit, revealing the scene.
He was rushed to the SPMC Hospital but was declared dead around 7:26 a.m.
In his speech at Camp Quintin Merecido, Nartatez tasked the Regional Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Group to immediately conduct an investigation.
“Ensure na makuha ‘yung FPCs (fingerprint cards) of evidence doon to show that hindi tayo nagkulang in the conduct of investigation… no whitewash. Tingnan natin kung anong nangyari,” he instructed.
Nartatez also reaffirmed the PNP’s zero-tolerance policy on hazing after 70 officers of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14B were dismissed over maltreatment complaints in Basilan.
