Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. personally inspected key public areas across Metro Manila on Wednesday as part of heightened security preparations for the Holy Week travel surge.
The inspection covered religious sites, marketplaces, and major transport hubs expected to be crowded during the observance.
Nartatez first visited the Baclaran Church, where he called out vendors occupying sidewalks and causing obstructions. He directed the local station commander to coordinate with vendors’ associations to prevent road blockages, in line with the government’s “zero obstruction” policy launched by national agencies ahead of Holy Week.
He also proceeded to the Quiapo Church, where he offered prayers before continuing inspections.
The PNP chief traveled between locations using the LRT Line 1 and LRT Line 2 to assess commuter conditions and police visibility along major transit routes.
According to Nartatez, public areas remained orderly and peaceful during his rounds, with police personnel properly deployed as outlined in the PNP’s security plan.
The PNP remains on full alert nationwide, with over 98,000 officers deployed, although authorities clarified that no specific security threats have been monitored during the long weekend.
