The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested a 37-year-old boat captain and confiscated approximately ₱6.9 million worth of assets during a maritime enforcement operation off the coast of Brgy. Tayamaan, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro on April 11, 2026.
The operation, conducted around 7:30 a.m., was led by the Occidental Mindoro Maritime Police Station in coordination with local police units and Marine forces.
Authorities boarded a commercial fishing vessel approximately 11 kilometers offshore and discovered violations of fisheries regulations, particularly under Section 113 of Republic Act 10654 for employing unlicensed fishing crew.
The suspect was immediately arrested following the inspection.
Seized assets included a commercial fishing vessel worth ₱6 million, a marine engine valued at ₱260,000, fishing gear worth ₱200,000, and around seven tons of assorted fish valued at ₱500,000, bringing the total haul to ₱6.96 million.
The arrested boat captain and recovered evidence were brought to the Mamburao Municipal Police Station for documentation and legal processing. The case will also be elevated to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Adjudication Board for administrative proceedings.
The PNP said the operation reflects its continued efforts to strengthen maritime law enforcement and curb illegal fishing activities in Philippine waters.
