The Philippine National Police (PNP) has declared “all systems go” for the security preparations surrounding the planned protests and commemorative activities for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on Wednesday, February 25.
According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, Metro Manila police are on full deployment as various groups gear up for the third “Trillion Peso March” and protest actions in parts of EDSA.
During a final walkthrough at the EDSA Shrine, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Police General Anthony Aberin, together with personnel from the Eastern Police District, inspected security arrangements in the area.
Although authorities have declared the EDSA Shrine a “no rally zone” due to its status as private property, several groups are still expected to hold programs at the site.
Based on monitoring from Camp Crame, at least three groups are planning to stage protest actions at the EDSA Shrine, while a smaller group is set to hold a demonstration in the Ortigas area.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City government has authorized a separate main event to be held in White Plains starting at 7:00 a.m.
Aberin assured the public that the police will observe maximum tolerance, including engaging in dialogue with groups that intend to proceed with their activities despite the restrictions in certain areas.
As of 10:00 a.m., the skeletal force deployment is complete, with personnel from the Mandaluyong Police, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and ambulances strategically positioned in key areas since the weekend.
The PNP earlier placed Metro Manila under full alert status beginning Saturday, while a heightened alert has been raised nationwide in anticipation of the anniversary activities.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reminded officers to exercise restraint and strictly avoid the use of firearms.
Nartatez emphasized that the PNP’s position remains clear: to uphold human rights, ensure public safety, and enforce the law.
