At least 97 members of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) in Pasay will join the nationwide transport strike on Thursday, September 18, to denounce the alleged flood control scandal, as reported by RH Jecelle RIcafort
According toPISTON Pasay Secretary Lapitan, the group will assemble along the service road of Roxas Boulevard before marching to Mendiola, Manila, where they will stage a noise protest.
At least 20 passenger jeepneys in Pasay were submerged in recent floods, leaving affected drivers unable to earn their usual daily income of more than ₱1,600.
The group has appealed for understanding from commuters who will be affected, particularly those traveling on the Divisoria–Manila–Baclaran routes.
Lapitan also expressed confidence in the appointment of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong as special adviser and investigator of the Independent Commission of Inquiry (ICI).
Meanwhile, PISTON National Coordinator Cerilo Latoreno called on President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to ensure accountability among officials involved in the flood control controversy.
“Kailangan po panagutin lahat ng magnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan, lalong-lalo na po ‘yong mga senador, congressman, contract, engineer. Kung sino man po ang may sala dapat panagutin po lahat dahil tayo pong mga Pilipino ay lugmok po tayo sa kahirapan,” Latoreno stressed.
