Transport group PISTON staged a demonstration at Agoncillo Street, corner Escoda Street, Ermita, Manila on Tuesday.

The group’s transport strike began on Monday and will last until tomorrow, September 30, reported RH 9 Tina Nolasco.

PISTON is calling for lower pump prices, that the government junk the oil deregulation law, and remove the value-added tax (VAT) and excise tax on oil prices.

The group believes the fare hike implemented on Monday is insufficient to cover drivers’ expenses amid rising oil prices.

“Taas-pasahe? Para ka lang nagkaroon ng kulangot sa ilong nun, e. Kakapiranggot, e. Hindi magiging karagdagan ‘yun,” a PISTON member said.

“Ang pinakamahalaga, bumaba ang diesel. Ang ano lang namin, tigil kami pag mayroong modern. Pag walang modern, tsaka lang kami (mamamasada). Buti inuunawa na lang kami ng mga operator namin,” he added.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), working alongside the Office of the President (OP), and the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev), is offering free rides for commuters today, September 29.
