Transport group PISTON is urging the government to implement long-term solutions to address rising fuel prices and gaps in transport aid programs, saying current assistance measures remain insufficient.

In an exclusive interview, PISTON National President Mody Floranda said programs like fuel subsidies and service contracting provide limited relief but fail to resolve the deeper crisis affecting drivers and operators.

“Sa isang tingin ay makakatulong pero hindi po ito yung makaka-resolve doon po sa kasalukuyang kalagayan ng ating sektor,” Floranda said, pointing to fuel prices still exceeding ₱100 per liter.

He also flagged issues in the rollout of fuel subsidies, with some drivers reportedly denied discounts at participating gas stations despite being listed under the program.

Floranda emphasized that broader reforms are needed, including measures to lower fuel prices.

"Hindi lamang patse-patse na solusyon ang gawin talaga ng gobyerno kundi magkaroon talaga ng malinaw na solusyon sa kasalukuyang kalagayan,” he said.

The group maintained that reducing fuel costs would have wider benefits, easing expenses not only for drivers but also for consumers and the broader economy.
