Filipino singer Matty Juniosa captured international attention after earning the coveted Golden Buzzer on the hit talent show Britain’s Got Talent.
The 27-year-old performer, who previously competed in Idol Philippines in 2019, impressed both judges and the audience with his powerful rendition of Prince’s classic hit “Purple Rain.” His performance drew a standing ovation and overwhelming calls from the crowd for the Golden Buzzer—prompting music mogul Simon Cowell to press it.
The Golden Buzzer sends Juniosa straight to the live rounds of the competition, skipping further audition stages.
Juniosa, who has been living in Glasgow, Scotland for the past three years while working as a part-time waiter, shared that joining the competition was deeply personal.
He said he wanted to prove to himself that he is more than just a “singing competition loser,” a label he had carried after joining several talent contests in the past.
Cowell praised the performance, noting it drew one of the biggest reactions from the audience so far this season. He later expressed even greater admiration online, saying he “could have given him two Golden Buzzers.”
On social media, viewers also lauded Juniosa’s performance, with many praising his vocal range and calling the Golden Buzzer “well-deserved.”
Juniosa, a former member of the Idol Philippines finalist group iDolls alongside Lucas Garcia and Enzo Almario, admitted he is still in disbelief over the opportunity.
He described the moment as especially meaningful, having grown up watching Britain’s Got Talent.
With his Golden Buzzer win, Juniosa now joins the roster of standout acts advancing to the live shows, marking a proud moment for Filipino talent on the global stage.
