A Filipino illustrator is set to take part in a globally recognized film release, as artist Denver Balbaboco creates the official cover artwork for an upcoming 4K edition of Frankenstein, to be released this October by The Criterion Collection.

The Criterion Collection, known for restoring and preserving landmark films, said the release will feature Balbaboco’s “Frankenstein”-themed artwork, placing the Filipino creative in the spotlight of an international audience of collectors and cinephiles.

The collaboration builds on Balbaboco’s earlier work connected to the film. Prior to the official commission, he created a tribute poster inspired by the project, which later caught the attention of director Guillermo del Toro and his team. The artwork was subsequently licensed for the film’s awards season campaign.

Balbaboco has steadily established a presence in the Philippine creative scene, producing visual designs across film, theater and music. His portfolio includes poster work for “Call Me Mother” (2025) and “Into the Woods” (2025), as well as cover art for releases by Filipino girl group BINI.

The October release marks a milestone for Filipino representation in global art and film packaging, highlighting how local talent continues to gain visibility through major international platforms.
