Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Saturday has confirmed that he has “no plans“ to run for any office in the 2028 elections, saying that he intends to conclude his political career at the end of his current Senate term in 2031.

During an interview at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Homecoming in Baguio City, Lacson addressed speculation about potential alliances and offers related to the 2028 elections, according to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa on DZRH's Boom Balita.

“Absolutely none. I’m nearing the twilight of my career. I am still eligible for reelection in 2031, but I am not intending to. I intend to finish my public service career in 2031, when my current term ends in the Senate,” Lacson said.

On May 2025 elections, Lacson won a fourth non-consecutive term in the Senate. His current tenure is set to expire in 2031.

The discussion about the 2028 elections was reignited when Vice President Sara Duterte announced her intention to run for president in the same election cycle.

While speculation continues regarding her potential running mate, Lacson has firmly indicated that he will not be seeking any post in the 2028 elections.
