The PG U12 Pilipinas Team clinched the bronze medal in the 2026 12-under All Japan Baseball Championship after a narrow semifinal loss to host Japan, falling 6-5 on a walk-off home run.

The young Filipino squad pushed Japan to the limit in a tightly contested semifinal matchup, leading 5-4 in the final inning before surrendering a decisive two-run homer by Japan’s cleanup hitter that ended the game.

It was the second meeting between the two teams in the tournament, both decided by slim margins.

Despite the heartbreaking defeat, the Pilipinas U12 team secured a podium finish and drew praise for its resilience and competitiveness against one of the region’s strongest baseball programs.

Tournament organizers and team officials noted that the Filipino players defied expectations, with some observers earlier doubting their ability to compete — or even score — against Japan.

The team, however, showcased steady offense and disciplined play throughout the tournament, signaling the continued growth of grassroots baseball in the Philippines.

“This medal represents more than a podium finish. It reflects the courage of these young players to believe in themselves and compete at a high level,” the team said in a statement.

The squad was led by coaches Darvin Reyes and Kyle Rodrigo Villafana, with Maricar Sason serving as team manager.

Support from program officials, including Perfect Game Philippines Vice President Raymond Tolentino and President Mon Galimba, helped fuel the team’s campaign.

The bronze-medal finish marks a significant achievement for the Pilipinas U12 program and underscores the country’s rising presence in international youth baseball competitions.
