Former Miss Universe titleholder Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey recently reflected on her historic win ten years ago, revisiting a moment that profoundly changed the course of her life.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Miss Universe 2015 shared why it took time for her to open up about the experience. She wrote, “I’ve gone back and forth about posting this because revisiting Miss Universe forces me to sit with what it meant to me then and what it means now. And that requires honesty.”

Looking back, Wurtzbach-Jauncey emphasized that her reign went far beyond wearing the crown. “My Miss Universe experience changed my life in real and lasting ways. Not just because of the crown, but because of the people who made that experience what it was,” she added.

She expressed gratitude for the care and guidance she received during her journey, noting that what mattered most was being valued not just as a winner, but as a woman undergoing personal growth and transformation.

According to the former queen, even the most elaborate beauty pageant productions lose meaning if they fail to make a real impact. What truly matters, she implied, is when competitions uplift women, build confidence, and empower them to use their voices.

Addressing the criticism often directed at beauty pageants, Wurtzbach-Jauncey stood by the authenticity of her experience. “It was demanding, emotional, imperfect, and deeply meaningful. I am grateful for it. I will never take it for granted,” she said.

Although she has since stepped away from the pageant scene, she shared that her connection to Miss Universe remains strong. “I may no longer be in the pageant world, but I will always care about what Miss Universe can represent when it is done with intention.”

She further stressed the importance of centering the women in the competition. “When it centers on the experience of the women. When it remembers that the girls are not just part of the show, they are the heart of it.”

Concluding her message, Wurtzbach-Jauncey reflected on the lasting impact of her win, writing, “Ten years later, I look back with gratitude. It changed my life. And I hope, truly, that it can continue to change lives in the ways that matter most.”

Her victory remains one of the most talked-about moments in pageant history, following the infamous 2015 coronation mishap when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Universe Colombia as the winner.

Despite having no involvement in the error, Wurtzbach-Jauncey faced backlash and was unfairly blamed for the public embarrassment experienced by Colombia’s delegate, Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo.
