Senator-judge Pia Cayetano on Wednesday requested the installation of a television monitor in front of the senators' seats, saying it had become difficult to view evidence being presented during the third day of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
As documentary evidence and affidavits were being displayed on a screen inside the Senate session hall, Cayetano raised concerns over the viewing angle for senators seated in the front row.
Addressing Impeachment Presiding Officer Francis "Chiz" Escudero, Cayetano said the current setup was causing discomfort.
“If it's possible, Mr. President, if our secretariat can install a monitor here because magkaka-stiff neck na po ako watching this. And it really doesn't look nice that I'm slouched there looking this way,” Cayetano said.
She added that while videos were generally visible, reading copies of affidavits and other documentary evidence on the screen was difficult.
“For the copies of affidavit, it's quite difficult. So if they can put one here. The others want another, but I can speak for those in the front row who would like to request,” she added.
In response, Escudero granted the request and instructed the Senate Secretariat to improve the courtroom's viewing setup.
“The Clerk of Court is instructed to kindly install a TV monitor in front of the tables of the counsel for the parties instead of at the witness stand. Both sides. Underneath the table of the counsel for the parties,” Escudero ordered.
The adjustment is expected to provide senators and counsels with a clearer view of documentary evidence and other materials presented during the remainder of the impeachment proceedings.
