Filipina para archer Agustina Bantiloc launched the country’s Paralympics campaign with a strong performance, achieving her best mark of the season despite finishing last in the women’s individual compound open ranking round on Friday (Manila time).
Bantiloc faced Brazil's representative, Jane Karla Gogel, and experienced a challenging start. The match was closely contested, with Gogel leading 58-53.
In the third end, Gogel shot a 29, while Bantiloc scored 24. Gogel continued to build her advantage with another 29 in the fourth end, while Bantiloc scored 27, resulting in a 116-104 lead for Gogel.
Bantiloc concluded her campaign in last place among 28 competitors, despite achieving a season-best score of 618 in the open ranking round.
Despite Bantiloc's early exit, the Philippine delegation continues to strive for victory with five athletes still in the competition: track and field athletes Jerrold Mangliwan and Cendy Asusano, taekwondo practitioner Alain Ganapin, and swimmers Ernie Gawilan and Angel Otom.
