A tabloid photojournalist, Itoh Son, died early Friday morning while covering the annual Traslacion procession of the Jesus Nazarene in Manila.
According to colleagues and witnesses, Son suffered a sudden heart attack near the Quirino Grandstand while documenting the event. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Manila but was declared dead on arrival.
Sources said Son had been experiencing flu symptoms for several days but continued to cover pre-Traslacion activities, including the “Pahalik,” a traditional veneration of the Jesus Nazarene.
The Philippine National Police confirmed the incident and are coordinating with hospital authorities.
Colleagues and fellow journalists expressed condolences over the sudden death of Son, highlighting his dedication to his work despite his illness.
