Phivolcs reports minor eruption at Taal Volcano
by Luwela Amor20 October 2025

A minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at Taal Volcano on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

According to Phivolcs’ bulletin, the eruption ended at 6:14 a.m.

In its latest advisory, Phivolcs reported that the eruption produced a 500-meter-high plume of steam and ash from the main crater, which drifted northwest due to prevailing winds.

"This event generated plumes that rose 500 meters above the crater as recorded by the Main Crater IP Camera. Alert Level 1 prevails over Taal Volcano," the agency said in a Facebook post.

Currently, Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Taal Volcano, which means that the volcano is in an abnormal condition, with low-level unrest and may still exhibit weak explosions, steam emissions, or increased volcanic gas activity.

Phivolcs have reminded the public to refrain from entering Taal Volcano Island, which is designated as a Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), due to the risk of sudden steam-driven explosions and the emission of toxic gases.
