A minor phreatomagmatic eruption was recorded at Taal Volcano’s main crater at 6:06 PM on Thursday, October 8, PHIVOLCS said.

The minor eruption lasted five minutes, based on seismic and camera recordings of the Taal Volcano Network.

“The event generated a dark gray plume that rose 4000 meters above the crater as recorded by the Main Crater West Rim (VTWR), Daang Kastila (VTDK) and Buco (VTBC) cameras,” the agency stated.

Meanwhile, thin ashfall is expected to affect the southwestern lakeshore towns of the following:

  • Agoncillo
  • Lemery
  • San Nicolas
  • Taal
  • Batangas; and adjacent areas

Alert Level 1 is maintained over the volcano.
