The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported mild volcanic activity from several volcanoes across the country, with Kanlaon Volcano and Taal Volcano showing minor unrest while Mayon Volcano remains relatively calm.

In an exclusive interview in DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol, Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash plumes reaching 150 meters high on Monday, following three separate ash emission events over the weekend that rose up to 300 meters.

“So far, yun lang naman yung significant activity ng Kanlaon,” Bacolcol said.

Meanwhile, Taal Volcano had an ash emission last Sunday but has since shown no further activity. It remains under Alert Level 1, while Kanlaon Volcano is currently under Alert Level 2, indicating increased unrest.

As for Mayon Volcano, Bacolcol noted that it has been relatively quiet.

“Yung Mayon Volcano naman, for several days, walang naitatalang volcanic earthquake. For the past seven days, isang volcanic earthquake lang naitala sa Mayon,” he said, adding that Mayon remains under Alert Level 1.

The agency also noted that there is no connection within the activity of these volcanoes along with the earthquakes that happened in the earlier week and months.

“Hindi naman po sila connected, yung magma chambers po sa ating mga bulkan, independent po yan. ‘Yong lindol naman totally different process,” Bacolcol said.

PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor all active volcanoes and advises the public to stay alert and follow local authorities’ advisories, especially those residing near danger zones.
