The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) has warned of potential hazards from rocket debris following the launch of China's Long March 8A rocket on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

According to PhilSA, the rocket was launched from the Hainan International Commercial Launch Center in Wenchang, Hainan, at around 10:03 a.m. Philippine Standard Time (PhST).

Expected rocket debris was projected to fall within two designated drop zones, one located within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the other within Philippine archipelagic waters.

The first drop zone is approximately 107 nautical miles (NM) from Patag Island, 122 NM from Bajo de Masinloc, 164 NM from El Nido, Palawan, and 167 NM from Busuanga, Palawan.

Meanwhile, the second drop zone is approximately 42 NM from Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan, 42 NM from Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, 53 NM from Pangutaran Island, Sulu, and 122 NM from Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

PhilSA warned that falling rocket debris could pose risks to passing vessels, aircraft, and fishing boats operating near the identified drop zones.

The agency said details of the drop zones were announced through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) warning of an “aerospace flight activity.” It also disseminated a pre-launch report to relevant government agencies and authorities ahead of the rocket's launch.

PhilSA urged the public to immediately report any recovered or sighted rocket debris to local authorities and avoid approaching, touching, or collecting the materials, as they may contain potentially toxic rocket fuel residues.

The agency emphasized the importance of exercising caution, particularly among fishermen and other individuals operating in waters near the designated drop zones.
