The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) confirmed the launch of China’s Long March 8A rocket on the morning of August 26, with possible debris expected to fall within Philippine waters.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), potential drop zones include areas 130 nautical miles from El Nido, Palawan and 55 nautical miles from Tubbataha Reef near Hadji Mutaman, Basilan.

While no debris is projected to hit residential areas, authorities are advising mariners to avoid sailing in the identified zones until clearance is given.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (DENR-NAMRIA) have been instructed to implement temporary precautionary measures in the affected waters.

Just recently, residents of Palawan and Mindanao were alarmed by a similar rocket launch from China, after witnessing loud booming sounds and fiery debris streaking across the sky.

Meanwhile, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (RDRRMCs) in MIMAROPA and BARMM have been directed to closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates.

Residents are advised not to touch any fallen debris and report it immediately to the authorities.
