The Philippines will host two Women’s Tennis Association tournaments in 2027, the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) announced.
The country will retain its WTA 125 tournament in January, while Manila will host a higher-tier WTA 250 event in late October or early November.
PHILTA Secretary General John Rey Tiangco and board member Dyan Castillejo clarified that the WTA 250 will not replace the existing WTA 125.
“We will still have the WTA 125 in January,” Tiangco said, adding that the WTA 250 will be held toward the end of October or early November.
The WTA’s approval of Manila’s hosting application comes after the strong international run of Filipino tennis star Alex Eala, whose matches have drawn significant crowds on tour this year.
PHILTA said the two tournaments will provide Filipino players with more opportunities to compete against the world’s best while giving local fans more chances to watch elite women’s tennis.
The association also thanked the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee for their support.
Further details, including the venues and exact schedules, are expected to be announced later.
