Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino announced the SEA Plus Youth Games (SEA Plus YG), a new regional multi-sport event for athletes aged 16 and below aimed at strengthening youth development in Southeast Asia.
The inaugural edition will be hosted by the Philippines from December 2 to 14, 2027, featuring athletes from the 11 Southeast Asian nations and 12 invited Asian countries.
Tolentino said the event will provide young athletes with greater international exposure and serve as a development step between the Palarong Pambansa, Batang Pinoy, and the Asian Youth Games, eventually preparing them for the Youth Olympic Games.
Mandatory sports will include aquatics and athletics, while Olympic sports such as triathlon, judo, boxing, golf, taekwondo, skateboarding, wrestling, fencing, basketball, tennis, and gymnastics will also be contested.
Non-Olympic sports include jiu-jitsu, billiards, dance sport, and MMA, along with the Philippines’ traditional sport, arnis.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio expressed support for the initiative, saying it will help boost grassroots sports development and prepare Filipino youth for higher-level competitions.
