Philippine Junior Badminton Team continue to prove that success in sports is built through discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Members of the Philippine Junior National Team in badminton shared how their daily routines, intense training, and determination are preparing them to compete on the international stage while carrying the pride of representing the country.

In an exclusive interview on Matchpoint on DZRH TV, Aaliyah Go and Greco Bagunas revealed that their training schedules have become more demanding as they prepare for upcoming tournaments abroad, including a competition in Thailand this May.

Despite the pressure, both athletes remain focused on improving their skills.

“Mas malaki po yung pressure. Mas nahirapan po ako mag-adjust kasi po malaki yung expectation sa amin,” Aaliyah admitted.

The young athletes also spoke about the honor of wearing the Philippine jersey and representing the nation in international competitions.

“Kapag international po kasi, nakaka-pressure din. Syempre po, iba po yung dala nating responsibilities gawa ng dala po natin ang Team Philippines, and sobrang saya rin po kasi maglaro internationally,” Greco expressed.

Coach Lloyd Escoces emphasized that the team’s intensive training is necessary to close the gap between local and international standards.

“Kasi coming from our experience from last year, although we have talents and skillful players, pagdating sa international kasi, dun lumalabas yung medyo may kailangan tayong habulin,” he said.

Beyond skills and competition, the athletes and coaches encouraged aspiring players to trust the process and remain dedicated to their goals. Coach Escoces reminded young athletes that effort, commitment, and consistency are essential in achieving success, while the players urged fellow youth to enjoy the process and continue chasing their dreams of someday representing the Philippines on the world stage.
