Inflation in the Philippines eased to 6.4% in June 2026, down from 6.8% in May, as price increases for transport and food items slowed, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

The latest figure brings the country’s average inflation rate for the first six months of the year to 4.8%. In June 2025, inflation was significantly lower at 1.4%.

According to the PSA, the deceleration in June was primarily driven by a slower annual increase in transport costs, which rose by 12.8% from 16.2% in May.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages also posted a slower increase at 5.2% in June, compared with 5.7% in the previous month. Prices of furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance likewise showed a more modest rise at 3.7% from 3.9%.

Despite the overall slowdown, several commodity groups recorded faster price increases during the month. These included housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 8.0%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 5.9%, and restaurants and accommodation services at 7.0%.

Higher annual growth rates were also observed in health, education services, clothing and footwear, information and communication, as well as personal care and miscellaneous goods and services.

The PSA said food and non-alcoholic beverages remained the biggest contributor to June inflation, accounting for 31.4% of the total or 2.0 percentage points.

Meanwhile, housing and utilities followed with a 26.0% share or 1.7 percentage points, while transport contributed 18.4% or 1.2 percentage points.

Other commodity groups maintained their previous month’s inflation rates, the agency added.
