The Philippine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday confirmed the arrest of two Filipino nationals for allegedly posting videos about the recent missile attacks in the country.
Both individuals are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), for whom the Embassy has offered legal assistance and whose families are receiving timely updates and support.
Moreover, the Philippine Embassy has submitted a request to concerned UAE authorities, seeking permission for a consular visit to the arrested individuals.
Further details will be supplied following the conclusion of the Embassy’s probe into the arrest.
“In view of the ongoing investigation and at the request of the families, the Embassy is withholding specific information regarding the identities and other details of the cases,” it said in a statement.
The Embassy reminded all Filipinos in the UAE to observe local laws and regulations related to the creation, posting, and sharing of media on social media, including artificial intelligence (AI)-generated material, amid the heightened conflict in the Middle East.
