The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt has confirmed a bus accident on the A96 motorway in Bavaria, Germany, involving Filipino nationals.
In a statement, the Consulate General said it is coordinating with German police and relevant authorities, together with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Munich, regarding the Filipino nationals affected by the incident.
“The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt is deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident on the A96 in Bavaria involving Filipino nationals,” the consulate said.
The accident occurred early Sunday near Buchloe, west of Munich, as a coach carrying a Filipino tourist group was traveling toward Munich for the Oktoberfest.
German police said two Filipino nationals were killed in the crash, while eight others sustained serious injuries. One of the fatalities was identified as a 58-year-old Filipino man, while authorities had yet to identify the second victim.
According to reports citing police, the bus carried 33 Filipino tourists and two Italian drivers. The group had reportedly departed from Milan, Italy, and was headed to Munich.
Initial findings indicated that the bus left the roadway and overturned near Buchloe. No other vehicle was reported to have been involved in the crash.
Emergency responders, including rescue helicopters, were deployed to the scene, while the A96 was closed in both directions during rescue and recovery operations.
The Philippine Consulate expressed its condolences to the families of those who died and conveyed its thoughts to those injured.
“The Consulate is ready to provide consular assistance and support to those affected and their families,” it said.
The Consulate General said further information will be released once it becomes available and can be officially confirmed.
