The Philippine Army (PA) is reviewing Senator Robin Padilla’s admission that he is a communist, which the lawmaker made publicly during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
AFP spokesperson Gen. Francel Padilla confirmed that the review was being conducted following a directive from Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro to look into the senator’s admission, according to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa.
The statement is being scrutinized in part because Padilla is also a Philippine Army reservist.
According to the AFP spokesperson, the Philippine Army is specifically assessing the impact of Padilla’s remarks on his unit and whether his actions were appropriate for someone wearing the military uniform.
Padilla earlier said he was open to being removed from the reserve force, but questioned why those who were genuinely fighting the New People’s Army (NPA) should be the ones to face dismissal.
The senator made the remarks amid discussions during the impeachment trial, where he acknowledged his communist affiliation.
