After a seven-year hiatus, the Philippine Women’s Rugby National Team, the Women’s Volcanoes, makes its long-awaited return to international Women’s XV rugby at the inaugural SEA Women’s 15s Championship 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

Hosted at Padang Astaka in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, the tournament runs from February 8 to 14, featuring the Philippines, Singapore, and host nation Malaysia.

Indonesia had initially been slated to join but withdrew in late January, prompting a shift from the original semifinal-and-final format to a three-match round-robin schedule.

The Women’s Volcanoes, wearing their home club kits during captain’s runs, represent a mix of athletes from local rugby clubs in the Philippines and overseas-based Filipino players.

The squad is led by captain Trixie Pacis, with Hasan Ilter serving as head coach and Serupepeli Naqasima as assistant coach.

“It’s an honour to be involved with the return of Women’s XVs Test rugby in Southeast Asia,” Pacis told Rugby Asia 247.

“XVs opens the door for developing deeper game knowledge and seeing more diversity and inclusivity on the pitch. We are ready to seize the moment, which I hope is the beginning of consistent XVs Test rugby for years to come.”

The Volcanoes’ debut match comes today at 4 p.m. local time against Singapore, who drew 15-15 with Malaysia in the tournament opener.

The Philippines are currently ranked 62nd in the world, while Singapore holds the 48th spot. The final match of the championship will see the Philippines take on host Malaysia on February 14.

All matches will be livestreamed, allowing rugby fans across Southeast Asia to follow the return of Women’s XVs Test rugby in the region.
