The Philippines absorbed a 51-0 defeat to Singapore in their opening match of the SEA Women’s XVs Championship 2026 on Wednesday, February 11, at the Padang Astaka.
Ranked No. 62 in the world, the Women's Volcanoes were playing their first Test match since 2019 and had only two days to prepare as a full squad under the new coaching staff. Singapore, ranked No. 48, capitalized on its cohesion and experience to control possession and territory from the outset.
Singapore struck early, scoring in the third minute through winger Angelina Hui Yun Liu before adding two more tries in the same corner to take a 15-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Dominance at the scrum and breakdown, led by flanker Sherienne Jia Li Koh, kept the Philippines on the back foot as the hosts extended the advantage to 29-0 at halftime.
The Women's Volcanoes showed improvement after the break, earning penalties and gaining ground inside Singapore’s half. Their best scoring chance came from a loose ball off a scrum near midfield, but a last-ditch tackle denied them their first points of the championship.
Singapore maintained control in the second half, adding four more tries—including a converted score from Koh—to complete a nine-try performance and secure the 51-0 victory.
The Filipinas will next face host Malaysia on February 14.
