MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines welcomes with “cautious optimism” the announcement of US-Iran peace talks which will be facilitated by Pakistan, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
In a statement, DFA expressed hope that the negotiations will lead to the permanent end of the conflict and lasting peace.
The conflict has caused significant loss of lives and damage to civilian and economic infrastructure, as well as disruptions in the global economy, the DFA mentioned.
The Philippines continues to hope that all parties will resolve their differences through earnest dialogue and diplomacy, the DFA added.
According to reports, United States Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is set to visit Islamad for talks starting Saturday, while Tehran’s delegation will arrive in the city Thursday evening, as confirmed by Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan.
While waiting for the full agreement to be reached, U.S. President Trump says that all U.S. ships, aircraft, weapons, and military personnel will remain “in place, in and around, Iran.”
