The Philippines on Wednesday welcomed the recently reached “peace deal” between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the agreement would help ease tensions and pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the agreement was achieved through mediation efforts led by Pakistan, with support from other countries in the region.
“The Philippines welcomes the ‘peace deal’ reached between the US and Iran following mediation efforts by Pakistan and other regional actors,” the DFA said.
The department also commended the role of several nations in facilitating dialogue, including Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and other partners, noting their contributions to advancing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
According to the DFA, the prolonged tensions between the US and Iran have taken a significant economic and humanitarian toll, resulting in loss of lives, damage to civilian infrastructure, and disruptions to the global economy.
“We hope that this agreement will finally lead to the permanent cessation of hostilities and contribute to a just and durable peace,” the DFA added.
The Philippine government said it remains hopeful that the development would serve as a crucial step toward de-escalation and stability in the Middle East, a region long affected by geopolitical tensions.
