The number of unemployed and underemployed Filipinos increased further in April 2025.
Based on the data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the unemployment rate stood at 4.1%, equivalent to approximately 2.06 million Filipinos without jobs—significantly higher than the 3.9% recorded in March and 3.8% in February.
However, the recent recorded rate was slightly lower than the 4.3% recorded in January.
Central Visayas registered the highest unemployment rate among the regions, while the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) recorded the lowest percentage.
On the other hand, the percentage of underemployed Filipinos—those working but seeking more hours or additional jobs—also increased.
The PSA recorded a 14.6% underemployment rate, or approximately 7.09 million Filipinos, marking an increase compared to the last three months.
PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa noted that despite the increase in unemployment, more Filipinos were employed in April than in January, attributing this to a higher labor participation rate—the active job-seeking population.
Ultimately, PSA records show that 48.67 million Filipinos had jobs in April, equivalent to a 95.9% employment rate.
