Telecommunication companies in the Philippines have pledged to ensure the effective blocking of Roblox and similar platforms, following concerns over online child safety and compliance with national laws.

The commitment came after a meeting on Tuesday, March 24, in Quezon City between the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and local telcos.

Companies agreed to enforce restrictions after Roblox allegedly failed to address risks faced by underage users on its platform.

CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said the agency had initially issued a 30-day ultimatum for Roblox to respond to concerns involving alleged illicit activities, including cases of pedophiles and drug traffickers targeting minors. The timeline was later shortened to 15 days due to the urgency of the issue.

“Kaya binigyan na lang namin sila ng 15 days to reach out to the government… to discuss why we shouldn’t restrict their platform in the Philippine jurisdiction. Not only harmful but illegal contents online are happening within their platform,” Paraiso said.

Authorities warned that failure to coordinate with the government could result in stricter restrictions nationwide. The CICC also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s online activities to ensure their safety both on and off digital platforms.
