The Philippine men’s football team is set to return to the Asian Games for the first time in 52 years, earning a spot in the 2026 edition following India’s withdrawal from the tournament.
The Philippine Olympic Committee confirmed that the country secured a place in the 16-team men’s football competition as the next eligible nation after India vacated its slot.
It will mark the first appearance of the Philippines in the men’s football event since 1974, ending a decades-long absence from the continental multi-sport showcase.
The tournament will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 14 to October 3, 2026.
The Asian Games men’s football competition is primarily contested by Under-23 teams, with each squad allowed to include up to three overage players. The Philippines is expected to field its men’s U23 squad, potentially reinforced by select senior players.
The return to the Asian Games provides a significant opportunity for the Filipino side to gain valuable international experience and measure itself against some of Asia’s top football programs.
