Political analyst and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde dean Dr. Gary Dionisio said on Saturday that the government’s response to China state media outlet’s “racist” video depicting Filipinos as a “monkey” was “insufficient.”

Dionisio made the statement after China Daily, a state-run media outlet, released an AI-generated video that depicted Filipinos as monkeys.

“Tingin ko medyo kulang in a sense 'yung mga ilang response na ginagawa ng ating gobyerno,“ Dionisio said during a Saturday News Forum.

He cited the government’s response to China’s sanctions against Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., after Beijing imposed measures that effectively barred him from entering Chinese territories.

Dionisio noted the issue went beyond criticism of Philippine government officials, stressing that the Filipino people as a whole were insulted by the video.

“Ang hinamak na dito ay hindi lang ang ating mga lider ng ating pamahalaan, ang hinamak dito ay ang sambayanang Pilipino,” Dionisio said.

Dionisio called for a stronger response from the government, saying the incident should be addressed as an affront to the dignity of Filipinos.

“Dapat magkaroon tayo ng one voice dito, hindi lang po dapat DFA, hindi lang po DND, in fact the entire instrumentals of the government must speak in one voice. Hindi po ito usapin ng pulitika, usapin po ito ng ating pagkatao bilang mga Pilipino,” he said.

“This is very unfair, this is very unjust. And it requires a more strongly, funded course of actions,” he added.
