The Philippine government has requested a Red Notice from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) against resigned Congressman Zaldy Co.
According to a report by Jecelle Ricafort, NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari confirmed that the bureau coursed the request through the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime on November 23.
Once approved, the Red Notice will be transmitted to all Interpol member countries to notify them of the arrest warrant issued against Co by a local court.
Mallari explained that authorities in the country where Co is located would be responsible for arresting him, as the Philippine warrant has no jurisdiction abroad. However, with Co’s passport already canceled, he may still be taken into custody “by virtue of their immigration laws,” he added.
Earlier, the Sandiganbayan declared Co a fugitive in connection with his alleged involvement in the flood control fund mess.
