The Philippine Embassy in Spain issued an advisory, stating it is coordinating with local authorities to verify whether any Filipinos were involved or injured, following a train accident involving a Madrid-bound train that occurred on January 18 near the city of Córdoba.
According to the embassy, train carriages reportedly derailed and crossed into opposite tracks, colliding with an oncoming train. Rail authorities said around 400 passengers and staff were aboard both trains at the time of the incident.
Emergency services immediately responded to the scene, prompting the temporary suspension of rail services between Madrid and Andalusia. Train operations along the route are expected to remain halted as authorities conduct safety checks and recovery efforts.
The Philippine Embassy said it is closely coordinating with Spanish authorities to determine whether any Filipino nationals were involved in the accident. It also advised affected individuals to monitor local media and contact designated hotlines for inquiries about passengers.
