The Philippine Embassy in Rome has urged Filipinos in Italy to remain vigilant as demonstrations and possible unrest are expected in several cities on Saturday, Oct. 24.

In an advisory, the embassy identified Rome, Milan, Florence, Turin, Bologna, Padua, Bari and Genoa as areas where protests are expected. Additional demonstrations and marches are also anticipated in different parts of Rome.

While many protests are expected to remain peaceful, previous demonstrations in some Italian cities have reportedly resulted in clashes between protesters and police, property damage, looting and other disturbances, the embassy said.

Filipinos are advised to avoid protest sites and large gatherings, limit unnecessary travel to affected areas, and monitor local news and official announcements. Those who need to travel should plan alternative routes and allow extra time for possible traffic disruptions and public transportation delays.

The embassy also urged Filipinos to keep their phones charged, stay in contact with family and friends, and prepare essential supplies, including food, drinking water and medication, in case access to basic services is disrupted.

For emergencies, Filipinos may call Italy's emergency hotline at 112.

They may also contact the Philippine Embassy in Rome at +39 334 658 2118 or the Philippine Consulate General in Milan at +39 389 683 5076.

The embassy reminded Filipinos to stay calm, remain informed and prioritize their safety and that of their families.
